<p>This last Friday marked the end to the anxiety we get from hearing about an upcoming Panda adjustment to Google’s algorithm. In the process of publicizing the latest rollout, March 15th, we also learned that this update is being merged into the regular algorithm. There will be no more announcements about Panda updates since it will not operate separately. Since updates take several days to roll out, it will take some time before we hear feedback of this latest adjustment. Moving forward, will not knowing increase our anxiety or allow us to live peacefully in denial? It will be more difficult to assess changes in traffic and rankings with regard to on-page content factors when not having a date to associate with the change.</p>

<p>In a recent article I read, very few of the major websites hit when Panda first came out have actually recovered. In fact, most have suffered subsequent blows with each update. Google doesn’t render opinions on the quality of our content; they use other factors which they deem indicative of quality such as bounce rate, incoming links, social shares, and mathematical formulas across all the pages of the website, etc.</p>
<p>In the past, that fluff ranked and brought in traffic, but that traffic may have brought along a high bounce rate with it. Bounce rate is an indicator of human likes and dislikes, so if your changes don’t improve your bounce rate, you could be focusing on the wrong thing.  If you work to improve factors that indicate human behavior, measuring the results of pages that achieve it and applying what you learn to other pages, you could find the formula for your own niche which may differ than other niches.</p>

<p>A business that&#8217;s just a business sells whenever and wherever it can, but a business that acts as a tribe draws people in and makes them wholeheartedly support you, which reinforces your motivation and helps the money pour in.</p>
<h3>What goes into a tribe?</h3>
<p>The short answer: <em>like-minded people</em>. The longer answer is that it&#8217;s a different type of marketing and business strategy than has ever been employed. Earlier stages of business emphasized the individual pushing their idea to anyone who would buy it, but this idea has changed and this is actually an unsound marketing practice now.<br />
To attract attention, you can&#8217;t rely on being the one who yells the loudest. Instead, you have to attract a group of like-minded people and then look for things (products or services) to provide them. You can&#8217;t do this through being fake or hyping yourself up. Genuine passion is what makes a tribe work.</p>
<h3>Where do you find a tribe?</h3>
<p>If you&#8217;re not sure who your tribe is, sit back and think about your business strategy. What do your most passionate employees, customers, and vendors have in common? What values and goals do they support? What makes them excited about your business?</p>
<p><strong>Can&#8217;t think of anything?</strong> It&#8217;s time to evaluate your ideal employee, customer, or vendor. What would make them tick? Think about who they are and what they most need. Think about <span id="more-71"></span>what excites them, and who they want to talk to. Where do they go to find like-minded people? Is there a group you can think of that could be brought together through intersecting interests?</p>
<h3>What&#8217;s your tribe foundation?</h3>
<p>A tribe has to be founded on some common principle or value. It might be simple, like a tribe of people from a particular generation who have experienced certain life events in the same way. It could be a particular segment of the workforce who are looking to take a vacation at a multicultural resort with all-inclusive, top-class service, the ideal market of Club Med.</p>
<p>As a big business example, Apple has built a tribe of people who have shown loyalty towards products like iPods and have been enticed to purchase iPhones, MacBooks, and other bigger-ticket items because they believe in the value of the long-term purchase, the simplicity of the operating system, or the superior processing for arts and design purposes, for example.</p>
<p>It could be a shared passion that your company can support, such as a new brand of fruit leather strips called Veggie-Go&#8217;s by The Naked Edge. In summer 2012, they established a tribe of people who are whole/organic food supporters and need quick snacks &#8211; vegan runners, organic-only families, and so on &#8211; who funded the company&#8217;s Kickstarter goal by 130%.</p>
<p>All of these tribes were founded on specific passions or common interests or beliefs among the business&#8217; target audience. By finding your tribe, you can overcome economic downturns, meet initial funding goals, or sustain long-term growth in competitive markets just like these companies have done.
