That’s right the dream of once science fiction movies is about to turn into a reality,as Dr. George Eleftheriades from the University of Toronto’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering announced their extraordinary breakthrough in creating a cloak that can render objects invisible and this announcement was published in Physical Review X. The shield is told to be thin flexible and can cover up objects of different sizes.

This is not the first attempt towards the impossible, scientist have always been trying to find an approach towards invisibility. This summer the Michigan Technology University used dielectric field to reflect and distort electromagnetic radiation waves used to detect objects. The new cloaking system however uses a layer antennae to emit signals that cancel out any reflection from the radar instead of just scrambling them.

In addition to invisibility, the new cloaking device can also send out signals to trick the detection devices by making the object look bigger, smaller or at a completely different location. This is achieved due to the active looping system of the antennae which are in phase with the incoming frequency.Although it’s done manually for now but in future it can be used done automatically.

Although for now the cloaking system works only on radio waves but in future it can be developed to cloak visible light too.The project has a huge impact on the military stealth operations.
